Dollars for Scholars
Dollars for Scholars was founded in 1958 with the mission of helping to provide a college education for anyone who wanted one. Today, Dollars for Scholars is a network of community-based, volunteer-operated scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods throughout the United States.

Since 2001, the Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars Foundation has organized Scholarship Recognition Night to honor the graduating recipients and give recognition to those who made the many scholarships available. You can find information on the scholarships awarded HERE (pdf). The lists are divided into those given by businesses, by individuals (including memorials), and organizations. These lists are the scholarships awarded in May 2009. There were other scholarships given in other years and a complete list of scholarships given since 2001 will soon appear here.

The mission of the SEP Dollars for Scholars Foundation is to provide educational incentives and financial scholarships to Southeast Polk graduates who wish to further their education.

The intent of the foundation is to establish and administer a strong and growing endowment fund. Our ultimate goal is to award a scholarship to all eligible Southeast Polk Senior High and Harbor Alternative graduates who wish to further their education. Every household and business within our district has a stake in seeing our youth reach their highest potential. Whether their goal is to attend a trade school, junior college, business education, or university, the Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars Foundation will support these young people in pursuing their educational objectives.

2009 “Celebrating the Seasons” Dinner/Auction Very Successful

The Dollars for Scholars dinner/auction was a success! Held in the senior high commons’ area, the beautiful area welcomed around 300 people. The auction items were ready for viewing from 4:30 p.m. until the bidding started. Senior high cheerleaders sold raffle tickets – this is the first year we have sold out on our raffle ticket supply. After a special sit-down dinner, Auctioneer Jim Beattie and his crew guided everyone through the live auction event. The items for both silent and live auctions were outstanding. The early estimate indicates the evening made more than $25,000. Check here in a couple of weeks when all receipts and expenditures are complete for a total.

Senior recipients at the Scholarship Recognition Night on May 12, 2010, will be very appreciative of the efforts made by everyone at the dinner/auction (bidders, donors, individuals, organizations, businesses and SEP DfS).
