SEP Family Support Programs

Southeast Polk, Central Place Family Resource Center and their partners offer many support programs for families in the district. Below is a list of these programs and how to get assistance.

Area Mental Health Resources This is not a conclusive list, however, it can be used to estimate the time it takes to initiate appointments and the types of payment the organizations will accept. If an adolescent is in crisis, suicidal or having suicide ideation they should be taken to an Emergency Department for immediate medical evaluation. Various Website

Employee and Student Assistance Program The Student Assistance Program offered by Iowa Health Systems is confidential and provides caring help for students experiencing personal and/or family problems. The program provides a choice of options in a private and relaxed atmosphere.

Homeless Information If you or your family lives in any of these situations, you or your school-age children have certain rights or protections: in a shelter, motel, vehicle or campground; on the street; in an abandoned building, trailer or other inadequate housing; doubled up with friends or relatives because you cannot afford housing. The district's homeless liaison is JoEllen Latham.

New Shoes for You

In May, June and July, families with a child entering a Southeast Polk school who meet income guidelines, sign their children up to receive a new pair of tennis shoes for the beginning of the school year. Each child is matched with a donor. 

Donors can either purchase shoes for a child, or give a monetary donation that Central Place staff uses to purchase shoes through Shoe Carnival and Payless Shoes

School Supply Giveaway Not having the right school supplies can take a toll on a child's learning experience. Central Place, community donors and volunteers sponsor a one-day school supply giveaway for any student entering a Southeast Polk school. Supplies are also provided throughout the school year for students in need who run out or are new to the district. Central Place: 266-6795 Website
