FREE Physical Nights May 17 & 18, 2011
5:30 - 8 p.m. at SEP High School
Who is required to have a physical?
- All current 7th graders who intend to play an 8th grade sport.
- All current 8th graders, regardless of their intent to play a sport.
- All students involved in high school athletics.
The Southeast Polk activities office is making that process easier by holding Physical Nights at the high school, providing FREE physicals from local health care providers. Current 7-11 grade students can come on the above nights to receive their required physical and be ready for the 2011-12 school year. Our goal is to give as many students and athletes as possible a new physical and get them on the same page for renewing their physical each year.

My son or daughter just had a physical in March. Do they need to get another one at Physical Nights? |
All students who believe they may be involved in a sporting activity in the next school year should receive a physical on Physical Nights. Physicals are good for 13 months from the date of the physical, so if a student receives a physical on May 18, 2010, the physical will be good through June 18, 2011 - covering all athletic seasons. If a student received a physical in March 2010, it will be good through April 2011, which would not cover spring/summer sports such as softball, baseball, golf, soccer, tennis and track. The physicals are being offered as a FREE service this year and we would like to get all students on the same time frame for physical renewal. We are planning to offer this format of physicals in the years to come so it will be a much easier and more convenient format for both the local health care providers and the students. |
My son or daughter will be entering the 9th grade next year. Will this physical meet the freshman physical requirement? |
Yes. We encourage current 8th grade students to attend these Physical Nights to complete the requirement of all freshmen to have a current physical. |
Can my son or daughter receive immunizations or tetanus boosters at Physical Nights? |
No. Physical Nights are designed to give a quality physical for incoming freshmen and sports participants but will not include any immunization updates or booster injections. We encourage all students to schedule an appointment with their preferred health care provider to receive those services. |
What kind of health care providers will be available at Physical Nights? |
We will have medical physicians, physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants from local medical clinics as well as Southeast Polk’s athletic trainer and nurses. |
My son or daughter is not planning on being involved in any sporting activities in the coming year at the high school. Does he/she still need to get a physical? |
At this time, only incoming freshmen are required to have a physical. If the student will not be involved in an activity at the high school that is considered a sport, no physical is required. If the possibility exists that the student may go out for a sport we encourage them to attend Physical Night. |
Why would it be better for my son or daughter to get their physical done on one of these nights over going to our regular health care provider? |
We want all students and their families to receive their medical care and advice from the provider of their choosing. If you or your son or daughter is more comfortable going to your family physician we encourage that and we are not stating that these physicals will be better than the one your son or daughter currently receives.
