(There is an approximate 10 second delay before video will begin playing.)

Organizers of the Iowa Industrial Technology Exposition at Southeast Polk High School believe that successful completion of technology courses will enable students to be more technically skilled, work cooperatively, develop a positive attitude toward learning and work, and apply knowledge obtained in all areas of the curriculum to the world of work.

AWARDS
Awards for the outstanding entries in each division include trophies, medallions, ribbons, and merchandise prizes.

Special awards will be made to the instructors of students who have the outstanding entry in each division.

EXPOSITION RULES
Project entries must be in place in the assigned space before 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012. Doors will be open to receive entries on May 11 at 7:00 a.m. It is advisable to plan to check in an entry as soon as possible to avoid last-minute confusion and to assure that each entry receives proper attention. NO ENTRIES SHALL BE REMOVED BEFORE 3 P.M., BUT ALL ENTRIES MUST BE REMOVED NOT LATER THAN 4 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 11, 2012.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Any student enrolled in a middle, junior high, or senior high school Industrial Technology Education program in any Iowa public, private, or parochial school, and sponsored by an official of that program, is eligible to enter a project in the Exposition.

EXPOSITION ELIGIBILITY
All entries must be the work of the student submitting the exhibit. The instructor's effort must be limited to teaching, guidance, and supervision. The instructor must certify on the entry blank that the student is in all respects eligible, which implies that the student did all the work and that the rules set forth have been complied with. Entries may represent work completed during the school year just prior to the current Exposition year. This regulation permits those who were unable to complete a project in time for the previous Exposition to place the entry in the current one. Entries must be placed in a classification according to the course level in which the student is enrolled in at the time of the exposition. Entries may be entered in the Iowa Industrial Technology Exposition only once. In addition, the following criteria must be adhered to before an entry is accepted as an official exhibit:

  1. Component parts of an exhibit not produced by the student must be clearly indicated in the documentation.
  2. All combustibles, explosives, or other safety hazards must be removed from exhibits prior to entry.
  3. Entries made from kits are prohibited.
  4. To qualify for an award, each entry must be accompanied by appropriate written documentation. The nature and extent of this documentation will depend on the nature of the entry. However, consideration should be given to presenting the documentation in a neat and organized manner. Examples of documentation include:
    a. Plan of procedure
    b. Description of processes employed
    c. Process charts
    d. Preliminary sketches
    e. Working and/or assembly drawings
    f. Bill of materials
  5. The size of each entry to be displayed indoors is limited to any project which will fit through a double door having the dimensions of 70" wide x 80" high.

DRAFTING ENTRIES

  1. Drafting entries shall be all drawings necessary to illustrate the solution of one problem. A collection of several drawings of different problems done during the year will not be an acceptable entry.
  2. Drawings must be placed flat on exhibit tables. No large displays mounted on display boards will be accepted. This makes better use of space and easier evaluation.
  3. A plan of procedure or extensive documentation is not necessary in drafting.

GROUP ENTRIES
A project or projects that is/are constructed by two or more people must be entered in the "GROUP" classification. For example: an engine stand constructed of metal which is built by two students cannot be entered in a metalworking classification. It must be entered as a "Group" Project. Group projects are of two types and separate awards are given for each type.

  1. A group of two or more students who build several projects.
  2. A group of two or more students who build one project.
